I am making arrangements to go visit for the private viewing and reception in celebration of PAPER on May 31. Opening is May 26, 2012 in Steele Gallery.

In 2009 Lenghten Floral Rectangle, 2007 was accepted in the permanent collection at the museum as a gift from the Bradley private collection.

See you soon in Phoenix...

 Living in Los Angeles: Update.

I moved into a warehouse in the warehouse district in Downtown LA, its a 2500sq ft space that i share with another painter, the space is perfect for what i do. The building is being remodeled and all the units eventually will be high-end lofts but our unit is perfect for painting. In the meantime i don't have a mailbox and i forward my mail to a friend of mine in Venice. I spend a lot of time between Venice and Downtown. The energy here is incredible, around here is mostly warehouses for different businesses and it is perfect for artist. Ive met a few of the artist that live in the neighborhood while i ride my bike, explore and go to the neighborhood bar. I like being able to visit the shows of the artist i admire, meeting new artist and the weather is perfect.  My plan is to continue working, meeting people, learning and exploring.

The floor i designed for the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport at the Sky Train Station has been completed and hope that i will be able to share the images with all of you, i can't wait. The terminal is now completed and the train is being tested. it will be open to the public sometime next year and the public will be able to walk through the floor. The project has been a big accomplishment and over 3 years of learning experience for me with public art.

Gebert Contemporary in Scottsdale continues to represent my work in Arizona and have a few available good pieces if you wish to visit or inquire. I brought with me a set of paintings too for studio visits and future shows.

I've been working on a series of 5 paintings, attached is a picture of them in progress. These paintings are built and designed with the first layers based on math. 5 paintings with 5 lines that measure the same length and width. The border is 5 inches. Each painting has a design built with these lines. The backgrounds look like chalk boards. In some cases I had to relearn the way to measure the spacing. They all had mathematical theories but have been covered by layers. Each theory corresponds to the image and each image relates to an equation of behavior.

When i am aware of shows i will be part of i will post and share with all of you. I know for sure i will be part of a show in Mesa Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center next year and another in a museum in San Antonio in 2014. These shows are planned far in advance for research, photography, catalogs and all sorts of planning. I will be surrounded by incredible artist.

Works in Arizona Museums Permanent collections

I received the great news in 2011 that The Heard Museum and The Tucson Museum of Art will be having a piece in their permanent collections. In 2009, The Phoenix Art Museum received one of my paintings as a gift from a private collection. I want to share the news with those that have been following my work, collecting my work and supporting in my career. I truly appreciate the support I’ve been given here in Arizona as an artist. Thank you!

Erni Cabat Award for most beautiful painting at the Arizona Biennial 2011 at the Tucson Museum of Art
Arizona Biennial 2011. My painting  "it's what you do with time that heals" received the Erni Cabat Award for most beautiful painting at the Arizona Biennial 2011 at the Tucson Museum of Art on June 24. The Collections Committee acce"pted my painting to the museum permanent collection.

Selected by guest juror Anne Ellegood for the Arizona Biennial ’11 at the Tucson Museum of Art.
Of the 476 Arizona artists who entered with 1,318 objects of art, 45 artists were selected to show a total of 75 works including 2 videos.

A few of you asked me about the meaning of the award , here is a quote from Julie Sasse, Curator at The Tucson Museum of Art.

"I can tell you that the Erni Cabat award was started many years ago, but I can’t say exactly when (1970s?). It was originally created by Rose Cabat, a noted Tucson ceramic artist in her own right. She created the award to honor her husband, Erni Cabat, who was also an artist. The truth is that he loved nudes, so the original text that went with the award was the “most lovely nude,” but over the years, “lovely” and “nude” made selecting for this award problematic. A couple of years ago I contacted the daughter (or granddaughter?) of Rose Cabat and asked if we could change it to “most lovely painting” and I’m sure I could switch media to “most lovely” of anything. I found that your piece not only had a beautiful composition and premise behind it, but the overlay of flowers, clocks, and patterns, and the metaphoric associations were well-suited to the optimism and aesthetic approach that Rose would want us to associate with this award." Julie Sasse is curator of modern and contemporary art at the Tucson Museum of Art, Arizona.
